BIO
Nick Gieschen was recommended to Norwood by former Redleg, Paul McCormack and joined Norwood in 2008. The previous season he had joined East Ringwood, in suburban Melbourne's strong Eastern Football League. He had also played senior football for West Perth and Port Melbourne, and had played junior football with the Northern Knights in Victoria.
Gieschen, 23, signed a two year agreement with the Redlegs, and it was anticipated that he would add depth to the League squad's on-ball brigade. After making his League debut in the opening round of the season, Gieschen only made one more senior appearance for the club.
Unfortunately, increasing work commitments made it very difficult for him to train and prepare properly for League football. Subsequently, after playing in round three, he announced his retirement from the SANFL to concentrate on player management.
Nick is the son of Jeff Gieschen, the former Richmond (AFL) coach and AFL Umpiring Director.
