BIO
Neil "Nugget" Hein joined Norwood from the Murray Bridge Ramblers in 1981. The lanky, agile tall man commuted from his farm twice a week to play for the Redlegs.
Playing predominantly as a ruckman, he was handy resting in a forward pocket, but possibly at his best playing a kick behind the play while on the ball.
He was a valuable member of the 1984 premiership team, changing on the bench with fellow ruckman John Hall.
In 1985 Hein won the Most Improved award, and was recognised for five years valuable service.
Before the start of the 1987 season, the Brisbane Bears selected Hein as one of their six priority picks before the AFL National Draft.
Hein played in the Brisbane Bear's first ever match for premiership points and kicked two goals in their win over North Melbourne. In his two seasons with Brisbane he played 15 games and kicked 12 goals.
He returned to Norwood for the 1989 season.
