BIO

Sidney Hiatt turned in three very good performances at centre half back in the Norwood trial matches prior to the 1948 season, frequently clearing with long, accurate drop kicks. As a result he appeared to be an answer to the problems Norwood had across half-back in the previous season.

He played his first game for the Redlegs in the 1948 Anzac Day holiday game  and by mid-season had become a regular in the side at half back, before injury sidelined him for several weeks. He also played in the 1948 Grand Final when Norwood defeated West Torrens.

He had good early form again in 1949 and playing at full back in in the ruck was frequently among the best players. He gave up football to study at Teacher’s College mid year but resumed for the Redlegs in the finals after playing several games for Teacher’s College and training well for Norwood.

Sidney Hiatt played his final game in a losing preliminary final against West Torrens.
