BIO
Tony Hodgens was recruited from Saddleworth in the mid north of South Australia in 1953 and showed good form as a utility in the pre-season trials at Norwood. He was named as 19th man for his league debut against West Torrens on Anzac Day.
In June he was selected at half forward in the match against North Adelaide on the Sydney Cricket Ground - the first occasion a SANFL game had been played interstate for points.
Hodgens made 19 senior appearances in his first year with Norwood.
After starting the 1954 season with the Redlegs, he returned home to Saddleworth and subsequently won the Mail Medal for best and fairest in the local competition.
Tony Hodgens later joined Millicent in the South East.
