Anthony Ippindo played some of his early football with Payneham's Under 16's, as well as the Norwood Under 17's. He also played for Norwood High School in its 1986 Pizza Hut Cup (Div II) Grand Final win.
 
"Chief" was a member of the strong Norwood junior sides of the 1980's. He played all 24 games in the 1986 Norwood Under 17's premiership year, and was runner-up in the best and fairest.
 
In 1987 he progressed to the Under 19's (22 games), and played in another Grand Final.
 
Ippindo moved to the reserves in 1988 (17 games), before making his senior debut in round 4 of the 1989 Foundation Cup series. He played nine games in his first year, but only made two senior appearances over the next two seasons.
 
The athletic key forward added another 9 games in 1992.
