Ernest Johncock played at a time when Norwood struggled to win games. They finished seventh in 1915, a year in which many players enlisted in the armed forces, winning only three games.
In a game against West Torrens in May, 1915, he missed a simple chance at goal and in the same match was disallowed what the reporter described as a, “ brilliant mark.”
Johncock enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force in July 1915 and served in France. He was eventually discharged in 1919 after being promoted to Lieutenant
