Tom Jonas played most of his early football for Rostrevor College and Payneham/ Norwood Union in the South Australian Amateur Football League (SAAFL).
A former Sturt junior, Jonas was traded to Norwood as a 15 year old before being picked up by Port Power in the 2011 rookie draft. Under an agreement with the SANFL, Jonas was allowed to return to his "home" club when not required by Port.
In 2008 he played four games in the Norwood under 17s. The following season he appeared three Reserves games and 14 in the under 18s. He also played two games for the Rostrevor Old Collegians in the SAAFL.
2010 saw him play six games for the Reserves and make his league debut in round 7, versus Glenelg. Norwood won the match by 67 points,
Jonas went on to play 18 league games in his first year, and was awarded the McCallum (Rising Star) trophy.
A tall, determined defender with a strong mark and reliable disposal, he was capable of playing on both small or tall forwards.
He was a member of the Norwood 2010 Grand Final team that lost narrowly to Central District.
Jonas made his AFL debut against Hawthorn in 2011 (round 21).
He retired from AFL football at the end of the 2023 season, having played 216 games for the Power, and a handful for Port Magpies in the SANFL.

Younger brother Sam, played league football for Sturt in the SANFL. The defender was an important member of the 2016 Double Blues premiership team.
