A district junior, Roy Kendle played a few games for the Norwood Reserves in 1940.

He made his senior debut for the Norwood-North Adelaide wartime combination in the middle of the 1943 season.

Kendle was selected mainly as a second ruckman, changing in the forward lines - a role he played in the 1943, first semi and preliminary finals.

He was named as one of three reserves in Norwood-North's Grand Final win against Port-Torrens.

The following game he was named in a forward pocket in the clash against the Victorian Air-Force at Adelaide Oval.

In 1944, Norwood-North again won the flag and Kendle made a couple of senior appearances early in the year.

His uncle, Frank Kendle, also played league football for Norwood (4 games, 1919-1921).
