Allan Lyon was born at Norwood and attended Norwood High School.
In 1931 he impressed as a full forward for the Norwood Association team (Reserves). He was speedy, timed his leads well, and was capable of having an occasional run on the ball.
Lyon made his senior debut in the opening round of the 1932 season. Selected in a forward pocket, he kicked three goals on debut, and was named in best players.
He played five league games in his first year, but was out of action for many weeks after sustaining severe concussion in a Reserves match.
Lyon made another two senior appearances in 1933, and played in the 1934 internal trials.
He represented the East Torrens Cricket Club at A Grade level, and worked for the ABC as a sports commentator for many years.
Lyon served as an officer with the RAAF during World War II.
