Tony Melican transferred to Norwood in 1987, moving from Donald in country Victoria. With good skills and a long kick, he was recruited to play as a ruckman/forward and made his senior debut in the 1987 Escort Cup series.
 
Despite showing early promise, Melican was only at the Parade for a short period. He was cleared to Lavington (NSW) in June, 1988.
 
Melican's final senior game for the Redlegs was against South Adelaide in an 1988 Escort Cup qualifying round.
 
His older brother Chris Melican played 90 games for Glenelg (1988-92)
