BIO

Morrie Minervini was a rover who played two league games - one with Port Adelaide in 1952 and the other with Norwood in 1955.

Morrie came from Port Pirie and attended Rostrevor College. In 1949 Sturt granted him a permit to play with Port Adelaide, where he was the colts’ vice-captain in 1950.  He played with the reserves in 1951 but missed many games because of business.  He trained with West Torrens in the 1952 pre-season but remained with Port when he was refused a clearance.  He made his league debut in round 14 against South Adelaide but spent the rest of the 1952 season in the reserves, kicking three goals in Port’s grand final win over Torrens.

Cleared to Norwood in June 1953, Morrie played his lone league game with the club in the 1955 season opener before an Anzac Day crowd of 24,300 at Adelaide Oval.  Norwood, under captain-coach Haydn Bunton, went down by 11 points to West Adelaide, 12.14 to 10.15.

Morrie kicked five goals in five reserves games in 1953 and 20 goals in 18 reserves games in 1955.

Born on 20 December 1932, Mauro Minervini was 91 when he died on 21 August 2024.  He was survived by Helen, his wife of 65 years, and their children Grant and Carol.
