BIO
Oswald Murphy learned his football at Prince Alfred College and played his first game for Norwood in 1907 whilst a student at Adelaide University.
He was short of stature and sturdy of build and in his first year showed promise of being a strong backman. In only his fouth game for Norwood, Oswald played in the Redlegs’ wonderful 1907 Grand Final victory over Port Adelaide in front of a record crowd of 26,000 at the Adelaide Oval.
In a short career Oswald was in and out of the Norwood side; in form he was a strong and reliable defender for the Redlegs. Oswald maintained his record of playing in finals in each year he was at Norwood, playing in the 1908 Grand Final, losing to West Adelaide by 3 points.
His last game was in the second semi-final in 1910, losing to Sturt.
