BIO

Geoff McMillan joined Norwood in 1980, following the newly appointed Norwood coach and ex-Richmond team-mate Neil Balme, to the Parade.

Originally from Nandaly, a town in the Mallee region of Victoria, McMillan was a strongly built footballer capable of playing at either end of the ground. He had played both as a key forward and a key defender with Richmond in the 1977-78 VFL Reserves competition. After kicking 14 goals in two weeks at full forward, McMillan was promoted to the League team and named as a half-forward flanker. His debut was against North Melbourne in Round 13, 1978.

Richmond's forward line also included future Redleg footballers, Neil Balme and Peter Laughlin. McMillan played three games with the Tigers in 1978, and another eight in the following year.

Moving to Adelaide, McMillan was very impressive in the 1980 pre-season. Unfortunately, however, he was injured making his League debut in the opening round of the year. After seriously injuring his knee a couple of weeks later, playing for the Reserves against West Adelaide at the Parade, McMillan was side-lined for the next 12 months. He was destined to only make the one senior appearance for Norwood, although he did manage to play some Reserves football in 1982.

The popular Geoff McMillan passed away on December 25, 2001, at the relatively young age of 43.
