P. Mc Shane was a defender who played two games for the Norwood senior side towards the end of the 1898 season.
In his debut game, Port Adelaide ended Norwood’s premiership hopes with a crushing 10.11 to 3.1 win at Adelaide Oval. Mick Gallagher saved a little face in the last quarter, kicking two goals and hitting the hitting the post once.
McShane was named Norwood’s third-best player after grand work in the Thursday holiday game against 1890s powerhouse South Adelaide on 1 September. Eight senior players were absent from the Norwood team, which nevertheless fought gallantly for three quarters before going down 10.16 to 6.6. South won the premiership that year, as well as in 1892, 1893, 1895, 1896 and 1899.
Norwood finished third in 1898, with eight wins and nine losses.
