John Nettlefold joined the Redlegs from Norwood High School in 1966. He had been an outstanding school footballer, having shown great speed, determination and ball-getting ability.
Nettlefold played mainly as a back pocket/follower and his last league game was against Port Adelaide in August 1970 as he retired from football early in 1971 to concentrate on his medical studies.
John Dallas Nettlefold was awarded the Order of Australia (OAM) in the 2007 Queen’s birthday honours for service to medicine, particularly as a surgeon in country areas (the Riverland).
