BIO
A strongly built 198cm ruckman come forward pocket, Maurie Pope played seven league games for Carlton between 1956 and 1958, after coming up through its juniors.
Despite having played only one year of Aussie Rules, he made his debut as a 19 year-old in the VFL.
In early 1959, Pope was originally wooed to West Adelaide by their then coach, Jack Oatey. He was well on his way to residential qualification, when he surprisingly decided to play for Norwood instead, and had to then serve another thirteen week qualifying period. As a result, Pope did not make his Norwood debut until the 20th June of that year.
Maurice Pope passed away on 26 January 2022.
