Trevor Sapwell first played for Norwood's Reserves in 1974. After making a handful of appearances he was named in the 22 man squad that defeated Glenelg in the Reserves Grand Final at Football Park.
 
A courageous left-footed rover, Sapwell was dangerous when resting in the forward lines.
 
While he was never quite able to cement a spot in the powerful League team of the time, Sapwell made his League debut in 1976, and went on to play 30 games over the next three seasons.
 
He was an important contributor in the 1975, 1976 and 1978 Reserves premiership victories, also winning the 1976 Reserves best and fairest and goal kicking awards.
 
Sapwell was a member of the Norwood team that took out the 1977 Ardath Cup night series, defeating East Perth 10.9 to 9.7.
 
Faced with the prospect of competing for a roving spot with the likes of Rob Barton, Neil Craig, Trevor Marano, Gary Menzel, Michael Nunan, David Serotzki and Terry Von Bertouch, Sapwell decided to move to Woodville in March 1979.
 
He added another 22 league games for his new club from 1979 to 1980.
