BIO

Recruited from Renmark, Rodney Seekamp was a highly skilled play-maker. Joining Norwood in 1970, he made his League debut in his first year, and in the same year played in the Reserves Grand Final victory against North Adelaide on the Adelaide Oval. Named on a half forward flank, he was high in Norwood's best players.

He shared the Best First Year player award with Greg Schlein in 1971, when he often played across the half forward line. The following season Seekamp played more games as a centre-man.

Strongly built and direct, he used his long kicking to advantage, and in 1974 was rewarded with a State jumper in the match against Western Australia; he was later also included in the 1974 and 1975 State squads.

Seekamp was  outstanding for the Redlegs as a half back flanker in 1974, but returned to the middle in 1975. During the season he played his 100th game for the club and was also an integral part of Norwood's premiership triumph, playing an outstanding game in the Grand Final.

An injured knee in a pre-season trial resulted in him missing the entire 1978 season, and after two years wrecked by injuries Seekamp retired at the of 1979.

Rod's brother Daryl also represented Norwood, playing Reserves for the club in the early 1970's.
