BIO
Frederick Alexander Shaw was born on 27 August 1881, the son of Edward and Amelia (nee Bruce). On 20 February 1901, he married Emma Jane Skinner. Together, they had two daughters (Dorothy and Jean) and three sons (Leslie, Edward and Donald).
F A Shaw was named to play his first Norwood game in the last minor round series of the 1904 season. Despite heavy rain falling on the Jubilee Oval, Norwood had an easy win against West Adelaide, 19.15 to 1.4 and Shaw kicked a goal. Many of the better players were missing from both sides and the teams were consequently poorly represented. While this was to be Shaw's only senior game for the club, Norwood did go on to win the 1904 premiership.
Known as Fred, he died suddenly on 5 November 1921 at the Globe Hotel where he was the publican at the time. He is buried at the Payneham Cemetery.
The Globe Hotel is known today as the Kensington Hotel. His funeral cortege left the hotel on 7 November, and the Secretary of the Norwood Football Club (Alf Grayson) invited members to assemble at the club rooms before proceeding to Fred’s funeral.
Fred Shaw was also a Brother of the Royal Oak Lodge, U.A.O.D.
