BIO

Educated at Prince Alfred College, Doug Smart was originally from Melrose in South Australia's Mid-North.He made his senior debut with North Adelaide in 1986, and played 45 games between 1986 and 1989. He was drafted by Carlton at the end of 1986, but chose to continue playing in the SANFL. His last game for the Roosters was in the 1989 losing Grand Final against Port Adelaide.

Smart transferred to Norwood for the start of the 1990 season, at the same time as team-mate, and Roosters legend, Andrew Jarman.

Smart played 21 games in his first season at The Parade. An explosive, high-leaping and strong marking key forward, he could be an erratic kick for goal.

In 1991 he joined the Brisbane Bears but nagging groin injuries hampered his chances of playing senior football.

He returned to Norwood in 1992, and played another eight games.

After leaving Norwood, Smart played 12 games for Sturt (1994-95).

Younger brother Sam, played 53 games for Norwood (1992-96).
