Edward Smart played most of his early football with the Onkaparinga Valley Football Club and Sacred Heart College.
In 2009, Smart played six games with the Norwood Under 16 team. The following season he appeared four times in the Norwood under 18's.
He continued to combine playing under-age football for Norwood with college football for Sacred Heart, and in 2011 played in the SANFL Reserves Grand Final.
Smart made his league debut for Norwood in Round 9, 2012 playing 10 senior games for the season and 11 in the Reserves.
More importantly, he kicked two majors in that year's league Grand Final victory against West Adelaide; final scores : 12.7 to 3.12.
2013 saw Smart play nine games in both grades.
He was a valuable member of the 2014 premiership team. Selected as a half-forward flanker in the Grand Final, Smart was high in Norwood's best players
- the Redlegs defeating Port Adelaide in a classic : 12.10 to 11.12.
Smart reached the 50 league game milestone in 2016.
Part of the leadership group from 2017 to 2019, Smart's efforts saw him rewarded with the coveted best team man award in 2018.
Smart was a determined footballer who gave his all in his 100 appearances for the club, whether as a half-forward, half-back, or as a midfielder
