Jonathan Stevens played junior football at Norwood while attending Rostrevor College. He played seven games for the Norwood under 17s in 1988 and 23 games in 1989. 

The Redlegs went top in both years, and in 1989 Stevens was a recipient of a meritorious performance award 

In 1990 he played under 19s (10 games) and reserves (13 games) and Norwood won the under 19s flag.

He made his league debut in Round 8, 1991 and played five senior games in his first season.

In 1992 Stevens played four games in the pre-season Foundation Cup series and 11 for the reserves.

Stevens had a stint with Rostrevor Old Collegians Football Club in the South Australian Amateur Football League in 1994.
