BIO

Alex "Stoppy" Stopp grew up in Keith, in the south-east of South Australia. He played junior football for the Keith Crows, before moving to Adelaide in 2005 to attend Rostrevor College.

In 2006 Stopp was persuaded by some of his school mates to do a pre-season with the Norwood Under 17's. Stopp was zoned to the Glenelg Football Club, but Norwood were able to gain his clearance from the Tigers.

He played eight games for the Norwood Under 17's in 2006, and another 13 the following season, playing mainly as a key defender. Athletic and versatile, he was able to play at either end of the ground or as a ruckman.

"Stoppy" was a member of the 2008 SANFL Under 18 team winning the Best Team Man award for his performances in the championships. Norwood's two other representatives were Ryan Schoenmakers and Ben Speight. He also played 13 games for the Norwood Reserves during the year and was awarded the Coaches trophy. Somewhat surprisingly, "Stoppy" was not drafted at the end of the season.

In round 10 of 2009, he made his League debut against Woodville-West Torrens - the Redlegs winning the match 15.19 to 5.4. He played 12 games for the year and was named the winner of the McCallum trophy as the club's Rising Star.

He added another seven senior games in 2010, and two in 2012, before moving to Sturt where he played five League games.

Stopp was severely hampered by a wrist injury in the latter part of his senior career.
