Richmond 1872-73, Hawthorn Juniors 1874-76, Melbourne 1877
Aged twenty-two, a fiery follower and centreman, recruited from the Melbourne Football Club. At sixteen Suhard represented Richmond alongside Joe Osborn and then appeared for Hawthorn juniors. He was a member of the Melbourne team which travelled to Adelaide in August 1877 and defeated the Victorian (SAFA) team and a combined SAFA side in two matches at the Exhibition Ground.
With Norwood, Suhard was described as a ‘really grand place kick, marks well, never tires’ and being ‘a lion for work’. During the season he represented the Victorian Residents in a match against the South Australian Natives on 11 May, backed his team well in the new club’s inaugural association game which was against South Adelaide a week later, kicked a massive 60 yard goal from a place kick against Kensington on 6 July 6 and was among the best players in a return match against South Adelaide at the end of July. He appeared in all 12 games for the season.
