Norwood recruited Matthew Vardanega from the Canberra Demons Football Club for season 2021. He had also played for the GWS Giants in the NEAFL, and Queanbeyan Tigers (ACT).

A running defender, he was a strong mark with good anticipation.

Vardanega made his league debut for Norwood in round six 2021. He made five league appearances in his first season and 12 in the reserves.

Although he spent most of 2022 in the reserves (14 games), he added another two league matches to his career total.

He showed good form in the reserves and was runner-Up in the best and fairest award.

Vardanega decided to travel in 2023.

Matt is the son of 1984 Norwood premiership player Glen Vardanega (NFC Games : 42)
