U/23 State Team - 2023
Ellen Maple Medallist - 2024
Runner Up, Best and Fairest - 2024
Buethke grew up devoting all her passion and energy towards Netball, and it wasn’t until 2017 at the age of 15 that she took up playing football with the u/15 girls at Willunga Football Club. The following year she had been selected to play in the Open women’s team whilst still an u/16. In 2019, Buethke moved to the McLaren Eagles Football Club and was then selected for her first representative team playing for Southern Districts in the Country Championships.
By 2020, Buethke’s career took another step forward when she made her league debut for the South Adelaide Football Club. In 2021, she was selected for the SA u/19 team in the AFLW National Championships and was invited to the AFLW Draft Combine, where she finished first in the agility test with a time of 8.517 seconds. Incredibly, Buethke was still playing netball and continued to do so right up until the end of 2022. This often meant playing netball and football on the same day.
In 2023, Buethke moved to Norwood. Playing on the wing, her pace was her greatest asset and she accumulated possessions almost effortlessly. That year, her stunning form was rewarded with the club’s Best and Fairest award and selection in the Advertiser Team of the Year. Buethke was also invited to be a train on player with Port Adelaide’s AFLW team.
In her second season at Norwood in 2024, Buethke had another incredible year. As well as playing on the wing, she spent time playing at half back. In the game against Sturt at Thebarton Oval, Buethke and team mate Najwa Allen on the other half back flank repelled every forward 50 entry attempt made by Sturt in what was a stunning game of football from both players. At the end of the game, Buethke was rewarded with the Ellen Maple Medal.
Buethke was also selected to play in the first SANFLW State Women’s Team against Western Australia in Perth, and was part of a terrific win for that team. Playing her 50th SANFLW game against North at Norwood that year, at season’s end Buethke was selected in the Advertiser Team of the Year for the second year running, and was runner up in the club’s Best and Fairest award.
Away from football, Buethke is studying to be to be a primary school teacher specialising in Physical Education and works as a disability support worker, caring for people living with Autism.
