Schwerdt spent some of her primary years growing up on the Gold Coast where she played a range of sports, including netball and triathlon. Back in South Australia, she took up football in year 8 at school when it was first introduced there as a sport. In 2018, she competed at the “Australian Schools Triathlon Festival” completing a 400m swim, 10km bike ride and 3km run in a time of 38 mins and 56 seconds to finish 3rd of the SA girls.
In 2019 Schwerdt played junior football for local community club the Glenunga Rams, and was a member of the Norwood under 15 girls squad. In 2021, Schwerdt made her League debut for Norwood in Round 2 and in the same season, was a member of the under 17 SA team at the AFLW National Championships and was also awarded the Ellen Maple Medal for her performance in a match against Sturt.
Schwerdt’s success continued to build. In 2022 she was selected for the state u/18 girls team for the AFLW National Championships and was awarded the Norwood League team’s “Rising Star” at the end of the season. The following year, Schwerdt made the under 23 State Women’s Team and her excellent form was also rewarded with selection in the Advertiser SANFLW Team of the Year, and finishing Runner Up in the club’s Best and Fairest Award.
In 2024, Schwerdt reached the 50 League games milestone for Norwood in the SANFLW competition, sharing the occasion with team mates Adrienne Davies and Kiana Lee in what was a winning Preliminary Final against Glenelg at Glenelg.
Schwerdt has played up forward but her real prowess has been shown as a midfielder with her great ability to win the ball at stoppages whether on the inside or the outside. Her running aerobic stamina is also superb.
Schwerdt is eligible to be selected as a father-daughter selection by the Adelaide Crows, linked to her father Stephen’s time there. Her brother Ethan also played underage football for Norwood. Off the field, Schwerdt is currently studying a Bachelor of Science at Adelaide University.
