Brad Ferrall
Years Coached: 2024-2025
Ferrall grew up in a household where the primary passion was for sprint car racing. However, his grandmother was a passionate Norwood supporter and so footy was never far away. Ferrall played his junior footy at Athelstone and more recently he has played Men’s ‘C’ Grade for the Houghton Districts Raiders.
In 2017, his wife Alison required a knee reconstruction and had to sit out of playing football for a year. Instead, she took on a women’s coaching role at the Morphettville Park Football Club, looking after the B grade while she recovered. She asked Brad to help her out and he found he enjoyed it. The following year, he took over from his wife as the B Grade Women’s coach. In his first year as a head coach, he took his team to the Grand Final but suffered a narrow 5 point loss. In 2019, Ferrall got to the Grand Final again but this time he became a premiership coach when the team won by five goals.
In 2020, Ferrall was appointed as the senior coach of the A grade team at “the Morphies” and the team finished fourth. In 2021, he coached the A grade to a 33 point premiership win. The Captain Natalie Hadgecostas and players Amelia Rusden, Lindsay Bigg, Cammie Williams, Grace Smallacombe and Tess Maple have all played at Norwood at League or Development League level.
In 2022, Ferrall’s team lost the grand final by 5 points (again) and in 2023, he moved to Norwood to take up a role as an Assistant Coach with a focus on opposition analysis.
After League coach Brad Snell resigned at the end of 2023, Ferrall was appointed Senior coach of the Women’s team for 2024. The team finished fourth at the end of the minor round, with seven wins, six losses and a draw. Five losses were by less than a goal and the ‘biggest’ loss was by 9 points. After wins in the elimination and preliminary finals, Norwood played South Adelaide in the Grand Final but lost by 5 points.
Curiously, Ferrall’s coaching record up to the end of 2024 includes 5 grand final appearances with three 5 point losses and two 5 goal wins in Grand Finals!
Away from football, Ferrall qualified as a school teacher and enjoys a diversity of sports interests and family time.
